Investment Consultant/Stockbroker

Date started CrossFit:

6/26/10, first intro class. Started elements in July 2010.

Favorite aspect of CrossFit and CFO:

CrossFit in general…the results…hands down. CFO…the ohana…seriously, some of the most amazing people I’ve encountered in my life!

Memorable Accomplishment(s):

My weight loss…70lbs since July, completely unreal. Performance wise, I’ve noticed the most in my surfing. I used to be smoked after paddling out for 5 minutes. I can now out paddle my male co-workers, straight up awesomeness! They now come to CrossFit!!! I still remember crying/hyperventilating because Largo wouldn’t let me run a Reed Lane lap instead of Punchbowl loop. Who knew that 4 months later, I would be able to finish a marathon! The only training was CFO!

CF story:

My CrossFit experience began on June 26th, 2010, my first intro class. It completely sucked in the sense that I was utterly humiliated and completely intimidated. My mantra has always been that I must pursue those things I suck at the most. I reluctantly signed up for Elements. Never in a million years did I realize that it would change my life.
As I started Elements, I couldn’t do a push up or a burpee, despised running and could barely lift the one baby kettle bell. After going through Elements, learning proper form and technique, I signed up for an unlimited membership, meaning that I just spent a ton of money and better get my money’s worth. I started coming 5 days a week. Armed with a dozen new friends from Elements and awesome coaches, my CrossFit journey embarked.
My initial goal was to look good naked. I never cared to RX a WOD, do a pull up or get my name on the white board…I just wanted to look awesome. Along with CrossFit, comes Paleo. Courtney started the Epic Paleo Challenge in September 2010. I’ve tried a lot of “diets” with not much success or sustainability. The Paleo Challenge was awesome…50 people in the same boat and doing the same WODS…talk about accountability. I came in 2nd place, losing roughly 22lbs. I felt amazing and the progressions in my workouts were awesome.
Now that I’ve reached my initial goal, I now care about doing a muscle up, striving for RX, etc. My experience with CFO, has been nothing short of amazing. It’s the highlight of my day, knowing that I’m coming to see my friends, get an awesome workout and have coaches that won’t allow me to settle into complacency…constantly pushing me to limits I didn’t know existed. I still have a long way to go but I can do an ugly strict pull up, full range of motion pushups, handstands, burpees, do bad ass Olympic lifts and run without disdain.
Looking back, I would have never envisioned the results I’ve achieved! I am so grateful for CFO!!!

Date started CrossFit:

Favorite aspect of CrossFit and CFO:

That it’s a really great place to go to have fun after a stressful day of school!

Memorable Accomplishment(s):

Competing at Olympic Weightlifting School Age Nationals 2010

CF story:

I started crossfitting in 2007 a few months after my mom and sister. My fist WODs were Karen and Fight Gone Bad, which was a little scary. After a while, though, I really started enjoying crossfit. In November 2009, the Burgener family came to CFO and I got really excited about Olympic Weightlifting. Since January of last year, I’ve been training at CFO to be competitive weightlifter.

At 17 Kaia doesn't look like a Weightlifer but she has placed 5th in the nation!!

Favorite aspect of CrossFit and CFO:

Love the lifestyle, culture and the people.

Memorable Accomplishment(s):

Being able to get thru a complete workout. Going RX.  Doing things I never thought I could do.  Examples;  HSPU, free standing handstands, MU’s, Body Weight Thruster …  Oh, and I cant leave out the fact that after almost 3 years, I can string together DU’s.

Mark not only can hang with the Young Buck he can crush them!

CF story:

After CrossFitting for a few months, I began to see CrossFit, specifically CrossFit Oahu in a different light. Beyond the fitness, skills and the nutrition, I could not help but notice the people and the culture and how it was beginning to affect me. The CFO culture seemed to develop and nurture extraordinarily positive characteristics in its members and it was infectious. The CFO culture embodies the “Spirit of Aloha”, a microcosm of the culture of these beautiful islands in which we live. Bryant and the coaches deserve much of the credit for this culture. They establish the environment and the members feed off there leadership.

Favorite aspect of CrossFit and CFO:

The most important thing to me about CrossFit and CFO are the people who go to CFO. It’s a group of people who all want the same thing. From the Coaches to the members- we all want to improve and get better.

Memorable Accomplishment(s):

Going from 225Lbs to 185 lbs, size 38 to size 32 waist

Even after making it to E-9 in the Army Sam found out there was still more to learn about fitness.

CF story:

I’m addicted to CrossFit and everything that goes with it. There are so many things I still have to accomplish at CFO and every week I can see that I get better at some movement. I can remember when I couldn’t even do one pull-up! Bryant told me a long time ago that he would get me ready for the Sergeants Major Academy, that was during my first month, He was right- I leave the island on 1 June to attend the United States Army Sergeants major’s Academy and my final promotion in the Army. I go there in the best shape in my life, able to max the Army Physical Fitness test, able to do Pull-ups, run 5 and 10K’s like they are nothing and living life to the fullest! Every Coach at CFO has touched my life in some way. Dirty, Juggins, PBJ, Largo, Maria, Stef, Kiley, Courtney and Bryant-I’ll never forget what they have done for me and there positive attitudes.

Favorite aspect of CrossFit and CFO:

I like the fact that people who Crossfit share the same interest as I do in fitness and in health. No one is afraid of meat here and I love that!

Memorable Accomplishment(s):

Biggest and most memorable accomplishment was when I took part in the paleo challenge in August 2009. I started off at 112lbs and got down to 98lbs (high school weight) in about 2 months. My eating habits have changed so much since then.

CF story:

CrossFit continues to be a work in progress. There are many things I still need to master like kicking up to a handstand. I hope it happens soon. Maybe this year?

Besides sharing romantic beach kisses with her husband Romeo, Jenny also shares the black mat at CrossFit Oahu with him.
