The “Natural November” Nutrition Challenge ended on November 30th and we had some amazing results, as usual! I hope the stories I share of challengers inspire you to move forward with your nutrition goals in 2013. The next challenge starts January 15th!!
“I’ve been doing CF for 4 months and Paleo for 2 months. I’ve been dabbling in Paleo on and off for months, but got serious for my own 30 day trials in July and October. Pretty good results, but had trouble with allowing one cheat to blur in to a few cheats before getting back on track. Then, Courtney was offering her Paleo challenge for November and I knew it was a sign from the Universe to commit and go for it. I was very attracted to Courtney’s structure, the rules, the clarity, the strictness, the daily point tracking, the before/after measurements, the process, the community, the support. I love 30 day trials. I know at the end I can continue or stop the trial, but I feel like a commitment for 30 days is not too big to accomplish.
Okay, so, we’re off. Week #1 was about strictly eating Paleo. Didn’t pay too much attention to quantities or percentages of macro nutrients. Yes, I admit to fantasizing about cupcakes, chocolate, and cookies! Then, feeling delighted to let that go and just stay on track. I was not going to log any negative points for cheats just starting out… Week #2 I decided to keep a food log to see how many carbs vs protein and fat I was eating. Very interesting. Rather than feeling restrictive, the food log was very educational and helped me make better choices about what to eat, what to avoid, what caused a reaction, what made me feel better or worse. Hmmm, and, oh, those sweet cravings went away. Happy dance. Week #3 was my pre-period week and my sweet tooth began calling to me… But, interestingly, not as loud or strong as usual. I coasted through my period much smoother, with less cravings, fewer mood swings, no cramps, and, well, feeling energized, up, and happy! Wooohooo. I began to see results of my efforts in Week #3 when my clothes got looser, my waist got smaller and some new muscles popped out in my arms and shoulders. Yessss! Week #4 I went back to the food log and decided to go really low carb for my push to the end of the challenge…. and, well, to experiment with what that would look and feel like. Whooaaa. Dramatic results there. More waist shrinking, more muscles popping out, and lots more energy, zing, delight, awe, sass.
And, for the whole month, I did my CF 6 days a week with amazing energy, commitment, play, fun, smiles. I really enjoyed talking to all the other Paleo challengers each day at the CF workout to offer support, share successes, compare notes on recipes, and celebrate milestones. I felt fear for the upcoming weigh in and measurements for about one day and then decided to let that go and shift in to feeling excited and energized. I was Thriving! That word kept popping up for me all month long. Thriving! What a great feeling! My energy and stamina were way up. I could see and feel the results in my body. This was going to be a sustainable way of eating for me. The weigh in and measurement was just a milestone to be celebrated … and it was! Lost a surprising 6 pounds, an inch at the waist, an inch in the chest, and a little more than a percentage of body fat. Wow. The structure got me safely through the holidays without eating crap. And, I’m having so much fun with this that I’m keeping on keeping on for the next 45 days until Courtney’s next Paleo challenge in mid January. Love it, love it, love it. It works!
Thank you so much, Courtney, for sponsoring these Paleo challenges. They give us structure, guidelines, support, community, and success!”
