I am very excited for you all to meet and get to know the Santos family. They are consistent 6amers, always grateful and excited get moving in the morning.
Rick started elements in August of 2011 after his friend and “co-worker”, Loren, convinced him to try the intro class with Bryant. Rick is a Sergeant Major for the Hawaii Army National Guard Recruiting Command and has served for 23 years. Loren came to work hobbling around, sore from “14 min workouts”, told Rick to try it out and keep an open mind. Over a year later, he is stronger than ever and continues to progress.
He loves CrossFit/CFO because of the great people and coaching. Everyone makes him feel comfortable and he loves that we focus on the basics and do everything with good technique first and foremost.
During our elements sessions he talked a lot about his ex-girlfriend and was hoping it would work out someday…..
Well, the love story continues….Rick and his “ex-girlfriend”, Rosie, got back together and she started Elements with me in October 2011. She has some friends on Maui who own CrossFit boxes so she had tried it in the past but the timing was right and she was ready to go for it. She loves the variety of workouts and that she continues to learn something new.
Only 4 short months later, Rick and Rosie tied the knot! The joy continued when Rosie became pregnant and continued her fitness journey. Although her pregnancy, shortly after starting CrossFit, didn’t allow her to strive for her potential, it did help ease her labor, with increased strength, flexibility, mental strength and recovery.
Baby Miyka was born in July 2012! He cruises with the 6amers, sleeping to the sounds of barbells and loud music. Although it’s harder than ever for Rosie to go hard in the WODS (she is still a beast), CFO helps her get out of the house and really do something for herself.
Only a few months later, Rick’s 15 year old daughter Kaitlin joined the family after rocking the September 2012 Group Elements! Rick never pushed Kaitlin but new she would love it given she is a very active athlete. He talked about how strong, confident and positive she has become and loves sharing this experience with her and Rosie!
When asked what her favorite aspect of CrossFit/CrossFit Oahu…”Well I honestly I don’t have a favorite part, there are many. It starts with the environment of cfo, you feel welcomed and you get a burst of adrenaline because you never know what the WOD will be. Its also has some sense of accomplishment because you want to do your best to complete the WOD in a certain amount of time but also get the results you hope too. I personally enjoy crossfit because I feel myself getting stronger in sports and in my daily life. Seeing my dad getting stronger because of crossfit inspired me to get up and give it a try. I know that was going to be a challenge but it was a challenge I wanted to take.”
We love you Santos Family!
