Now we are not going to tip our hat at what this weeks WODs are going to be but I though it would be a good move to provide a round up of some of the best hand care resources on the internet to keep your coworkers from thinking you just fought off a grizzly with your bare hands.
Wrap it up
Most of the time you will look at white board and know, just know, that this is going to a rough and then proceed to not tape your hands. Fast forward to the proud new owner of ripped hands. I understand the slight novelty of your first rip to many but the reality is that if you can’t train because of you’re hands your just putting the brakes on your success.
If it has to do with Pullups (kipping, L, strict, weighted), knees to elbows, toes to bar, or muscle ups guess what? You should tape your hands. I can promise you won’t stop and tape in the middle of a WOD. OG CFers tape up every time and tape correctly which is the point of this article.
Learn to Tape…. Correctly
Look at the chart to left Johnson and Johnson’s stock price is currently on the raise because of all their athletic tape CrossFitters are wasting. We are not getting ready for a boxing match or pretending that our hand is now the cardboard roll the tape came on.
Read this pearl of wisdom from CrossFit Rx
“The most common “technique” I see employed is simply taking a length of athletic tape and wrapping it around the palm several times. Without a doubt, this is the best way to waste athletic tape and do absolutely nothing to protect your hands. Anyone who has taped with this method can tell you, a few pull-ups is all it takes to turn this shoddy tape job into a rolled up bundle of tape, chalk, and skin.”
Here is how you do it
Andy P from CrossFit LAX shows us how it is done. It’s that easy.
While your on it learn to take care of your gnarly calluses that are probably responsible for the rips in the first place.

The moral of the story is
Tape your hands when you need to or get some grips but keep safe. All you need is some basic athletic tape to save you a few painful days of training and trying to wash you hair. If you don’t know how to tape ask one of us Coaches and we will hook you up.
Hopefully I saved you some trouble and I am proud of my restraint in going the whole story with out posting a bloody hand picture!!
